Foxen Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir 2014

SKU 22524

Our most fruit forward Pinot Noir, the pinot for this bottling comes most prominently from our five-acre Pommard Clone section of our Block 8 at Bien Nacido. In addition, we also blended into it a bit more from some of our other favorite blocks at Bien Nacido, Riverbench and Solomon Hills Vineyards. This wine was bottled after ten months in second-year French barrels to preserve its bright red, summer fruit flavors and spice components.

Wine EnthusiastThere's a forest-floor touch to the nose of this appellation blend that also shows smoked and raw beef, hearty berries and a slight compost touch. The mouthfeel is soft, with flavors of iron and aged beef giving nuance to the tart raspberry, pomegranate, chipped slate and dried-mint finish.

Wine AdvocateSpice, underbrush, wild herbs and assorted red fruits all emerge from the charming, medium-bodied, supple, forward 2014 Pinot Noir from the Santa Maria Valley. It's geared for drinking over the coming 3-4 years, but offers incredible quality for not much buck. Note, this is a mix from Bien Nacido, Riverbench and Solomon Hills vineyards, and spent nine months in old French oak.
