Bodegas Breca Breca 2013
VinousVivid ruby. Sexy, mineral-laced aromas of fresh red berries, candied flowers and Asian spices, with a hint of cola in the background. Sweet, concentrated and seamless, offering intense raspberry and cherry compote flavors and a touch of vanilla. Clings with impressive authority on the finish, which features supple tannins and lingering floral character. This wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks, then went through malolactic fermentation and 21 months of aging in used French oak barriques. Yields here were reportedly less than a ton per acre in this vintage.
Wine AdvocateThe top wine, and a real winner, is the 2013 Breca, which is aged in three-year-old French oak for 21 months prior to being bottled unfiltered. Loads of flinty mineral characteristics are present in the aromatics. The wine offers black cherry, black raspberry notes and licorice, followed by pure, medium to full-bodied ripe fruit, good acidity and a surprisingly long finish. This is another killer value. Drink it over the next 2-3 years.
